Balancing privacy, ease of use, and features is the challenge of building a modern messaging platform. We should all move from platforms that only provide one or two of those options, over to a solution including all three.
As we progressed through the redesign of Chadder. We realized that this isn't about privacy at all. In fact, as we went around RIT campus asking students if they would make the switch to a private chat app most of them asked: "what else does it have?" Leading us to believe that privacy alone is not enough to convert a user from a current app to Chadder. Currently, our number of developers limits the amount of features and updates we can make. As we grow in numbers we plan to move from a service that provides private chat at the expense of your other features, to a service that provides all the features you want while having complete privacy. This shift in mentality has convinced us that we should switch from being a private messenger to a modern messenger. We believe in communication to truly evolve, we have to provide you access to those three key factors.
The video above is a step in the right direction, showing the new Android features and UI.
Psst! Remember us? We have been in stealth mode building IOS! But we will talk about that later! Chadder has gone through some radical changes over the past few months.
Now for the good stuff! Our team has shrunk since you last hung out with us and with that we have become more focused. Chadder is built to provide you with a modern messenging experience. With this new holistic approach to messaging, we hope that you will agree we have made leaps and bounds in progress since the last time we launched. We have improved in all three of our principle categories.
Real: our application has now updated to use more advanced cryptographic techniques. To learn more click here!
Easy: The user interface has been given a huge update and has been the focus of this most recent update. Our application is now more intuitive to use, even with its host of powerful features.
Fun: Meet Ghost, our new disappearing photo feature. Set up to be easy to use and fun Ghost is a new feature built to let our users have a more modern messagener experience.
You can download the application on our main website! www.chadder.im!
Keep an eye out for updates, share the app with your friends and have fun chadding!!!
The application is going through a huge facelift over the next month! The changes are in security features, and also in general features that will make the application really fun!
Our goal is to build privacy into the application so well that you barely notice it is there. We will be launching the update with PICTURES! You can finally send any picture, to any of your friends, without fear of being spied on. No more speeches from your parents or friends about a selfie you put online. No more speeches about how the internet is forever--- yeah, yeah we know. Not with Chadder!
We are launching some more fun features as we get closer to the 12th. The launch will include a new Chadder.im along with an updated Android and Windows Application for all of Windows 8.1! So update your OS for Windows to enjoy Chadder! So get ready for an amazing application that will help you have access to the privacy you deserve.
Hey, I’m Felipe Petroski Such, cofounder and development leader for Etransfr. Since our release at Imagine RIT people were concerned with the security of the application, and asked for more technical details. So today I will discuss some of the issues that were brought up several times and the reasons why we decided to do it that way.
Chadder is being designed to be the application that everyone can use. From an everyday user still learning about their privacy online to an experienced user that wants maximum security, will be able to change the settings to make the application more secure by using public key encryption. Rather than storing the keys and the messages on the server. As well as using password protected conversations, locking the files so they can only be recovered if connected to the server, and many other features we are still considering and are still on our to-do list.
Currently, the application uses RSA encryption with 2048 bit keys, security wise, this is a better option than using AES encryption with a third party key server as we were doing on our first release. But using RSA encryption would make it impossible to recover messages from old conversations if the phone is lost, or if the user is accessing from a different device. We plan on using a third party key server again in the future, but as an alternative way of sending messages rather than replacement of the RSA encryption. This way a user has the option to be able to recover old conversations and files, if desired. If you don’t speak geek this all means that our application is very private as well as, easy to use! If you want to read more about our non-technical features click here!
We hope users will find our application to be the perfect match for them as we implement more and more of our ideas, privacy is not something hard to achieve, all you need is a team willing to do develop it and people that understand the concerns behind sharing their information. This is why we have joined the Reset the Net campaign! Privacy should be for everyone. Our application is still far from done and will probably have drastic changes, including its basic structure; the only thing set so far is our goal, privacy for all.
Invest in yourself!
We are starting a new movement! Privacy is for everyone! Chadder will always provide basic messaging to everyone that wants to have it. Our cross platform solutions are in the development stage as we find developers for those platforms. If you want to support our efforts, click here.
Down to our new movement: The team would love to support everyone for free, but let's be honest, servers and developers cost money. Now, Chadder could fall back on the classic ad solution, where we shove ads in our users' faces every time they do anything. This solution results in cluttering the UI, UX. This method mostly annoys people. We are going to try and stay away from this model. We, for obvious reasons, cannot follow the classic social media voyeurism model and collect as well as sell your data, like many companies in the space do.
We have come up with a new way to support the mobile application. Chadder's plan is to offer app upgrades to our users, so that each individual can customize the services they receive on Chadder to fit their needs. All of the different features can always be read by everyone you send it to, but content can only be created by those who have upgraded. By doing this, you are investing in your privacy and getting very cool features in the process. We are looking to all of you to support Chadder and also yourselves.
This is, your application, is your opportunity to make a better future for yourself by keeping control over your information. It is time that we all stand up and say something about this issue. We are not happy being products of the apps we use just because they give us cute emojis and "disappearing" messages. Chadder is starting a new movement to promote everyone controlling and supporting privacy! We have started a new # on social media, please tag us there if you have anything to share or say about #investinyourprivacy. Our goal is to build a community of users that will support Chadder's endeavor to provide privacy and control for everyone!
Let us know what you think in the comments below! What features do you want to see?
Why crowd fund?
We have realized over the past few weeks that the application needs more support than we, as “starving college students” can provide. In order to meet all the goals we have for features and platforms we would like to support this summer, we need your help!
Many people ask why not other crowd funding sites? Why QikFunder?
Well, we thought that it would be great to use a company that supported different types of currency including bitcoin. Also, our experience with them so far has been invaluable! They are very helpful and experienced in this space.
We are at a disadvantage: we are not using one of the mainstream crowd funding sites, but that is why we need from you -- Our amazing followers and supporters! When you download the application, please write about it, or talk with your friends about it on social media. Talk about the QikFunder!
Here are the two links on one long and one short one! Our team needs your support: if you know any developers interested in the project or any people looking for a cool project to support, please tell them about Chadder!
We hope to see you sharing the link soon! #Chadderforall any link where you share it and we will retweet you onto our official page with a thank you note! Support yourselves by supporting Chadder!
All of our users are the BEST!
We have definitely had a bumpy launch and have been working with many people to fix everything! Between security updates and a much larger launch than we were expecting, we are now getting to a very stable application. We are working on some very fun features which we are looking forward sharing with you in the coming weeks. Our goal is to update the application once a week to be timely about bug fixes and adding new features! Please email our support email email@example.com if you find any bugs! Soon we will be posting a bunch of questions about our social media about features and a mascot! Be excited for the end of this week when we are launching a new feature! We would also like you all to know how much we appreciate your patience and we are looking forward to your feedback!
For the last very stressful week our service was broken, our finals were happening and school was ending! First, let me say we are so sorry to disappoint our users and we hope to do much better in the future. The user experience is what is really important to us. So what were we doing for the last week? (Besides our exams and classes)
Our previous version of the app used a different model of encryption that was going to require complication of the user experience. Since our goal is to provide a simple application for you all, when the service broke we made the decision to take the opportunity to change the service and fix the service at the same time. We have now implemented a full Public key solution that assures every message is protected by keys only the user has. The new system creates keys in the app that are used to protect your messages and decrypt your messages.
So how does it work? When the app is updated it creates your own personal pair of Crypto Keys. Then it sends the public part of the key to the Chadder service. When you write a message the client fetches the Public key for the person you are going to text from our server and uses it to do One way encryption on the message the public Key will encrypt but can’t open the message. The message is then sent “magically” through the Chadder hyper velocity message routing system to be delivered to your friend. Your friend already has her private key, so she can see the message. To learn more about PKI click here!
We again would like to apologize for any inconveniences this issue has caused everyone. You all should know we are doing everything to fix this issue permanently! We also apologize for any new bugs that were not there before or have been previously addressed. PKI is a new type of key management for us, so we are doing our best to integrate it quickly and seamlessly into our service!
Now for the fun stuff:
PKI will only work if everyone updates their application! So, let's have a Chadder wide update week! Keep on Chadding!
Windows Phones should be done soon. Sorry Microsoft, but Android starts with an A.
What a launch! We had a very successful launch with a bunch of people very excited about Chadder! The press was amazing here is a few quotes. I will include and respond both the good and the bad. So get ready!
“However, the app appears to be in extremely rough shape, not even deserving the “beta” tag that the developers use in their description.”

This is true our application is rough and our team made the conscious decision to allow people to play with the ability to send private messages. Over the summer we are working on a bunch of updates building in new features. The goal was not to build the worlds best application it was to build a good start. Because of everyone’s feedback we are able to build a better application.
“The core raison d’être of Chadder is privacy, with only the recipient able to read the message – would-be interceptors will only see “garbled, encrypted text”. When you first sign up, you do so by providing a nickname, username, and password. That’s it. Then, when you’re in, you should be able to add your email address and mobile number (to help people find you), otherwise you can generate a code to share and link up with individuals that way.”

Our goal is to provide something simple! In our early implementations there was an add friends bug that we have since fixed. We are college students in retrospect we probably should not have launched a new company and solution a week and a half before exams it was probably not the greatest for our GPA’s.
“However, Chadder's developers, who include John McAfee, the eccentric millionaire who founded the McAfee antivirus software company in 1987, have so far been vague about exactly how the app works. The information they have released about Chadder doesn't seem to support their claims of impenetrability.”

John McAfee is our partner and mentor, he has not been directly involved in the programming. We have learned so much over the week and we will continue to grow and improve with his help and others! We are working on models in the security that will greatly increase the applications' abilities over the next weeks!
You know about where we came from. You know where we are currently with the technology. Now how about the future goals and features!
To give you all a timeline: We have finals for the next two weeks and then our developers are full time on this project for the whole summer! Expect a ton of these cool features then!
Here are our thoughts on new updates:
Vanishing Messages: This is a trend in the space right now and we think that it is a good feature to include. But, we have an update to this service! On your phone the messages you send will not disappear unless you manually delete them! This way you can keep a record of the cool things you do with your friends. The message will still disappear on your friends' phones!
Fonts and Filters: These are add-ons we are very interested in including because the more freedom of expression, we give our users the more fun you all can have with the application!
Group Messaging: This will allow you to declare groups to publish to! Anyone outside that group will not be able to see the message. Chadding with your friends in large groups is fun (we will allow users to shut off notifications! Friends are great, but sometimes annoying)
Community DoodlePad: Ever wished that you could share pictures with your friends, add a drawing on top of that image and send it back to them without having to screenshot it? With this feature you will be able to share an edited image back to whoever sent it to you!
We are also planning to support multi-media messages, including voice and pictures.
Watch for updates about new platforms supported by the application!!!
